Oops, been awhile since I checked this. I think I'll try HF. Actually planning on going in April. I'm gonna try and make the Jeep Jamboree in Llano...if I can swing the money..that's a little rich for me.
There are plenty of urban trails. I can drive from near Walnut creek park (not from in the park) all the way to south of the airport with about 80% offroad on trails. Some are very tight but there is plenty of spaces behind industrial areas and in city-owned land filled with homeless camps and vagrants.

you'll have to do some google maps research and plot a plan on a gps.
