There's a Salt Lick south of Austin, not the one in Roundrock, that is BYOB, and the food is better than the Roundrock one. In fact, I heard that they do most of the cooking at this location and bring the meat up to Roundrock.

Agreed. I have eaten at both and prefer the one near Dripping Springs better.

My favorite *in* Austin is actually about 5th on my list overall.... County Line.

My real favorites are Coopers in Llano, Kreuz's in Lockhart, Smitty's in Lockhart, The Salt Lick in Driftwood... then County Line, Pok-E-Jos, and Rudy's (which is dang good for a chain!).

Excellent Choice. While in Taylor you should also check out Vencil's "Taylor Cafe" - the ribs are awesome.

I've had it at functions, but never at the actual restaurant.

Ever try Franklin BBQ off of the east side of 35 around the Manor exit. They are open from 11am to when they sell out and they always sell out. It is excellent!
