I Know 4 friends(girls) that have wrecked while texting and driving.
I don't know how many accidents I've seen news reports on attributing cause to texting. I didn't need them to understand it's idiocy when done by a driver. These morons can't maneuver a shopping cart and be on the phone so a two ton SUV becomes a murder weapon driven under the influence of a moron.
I was sick of news stories recounting how "surprised" some teen was that he's just killed his friends.
We've had bus drivers filmed driving and reading a Kindle. Darwin would say the ill equipped mental types who do text & drive are merely failures of natural selection and will weed themselves out based on "survival of the fittest".

Would you sat something that naive after a texting driver killed your kids?, wife? or parents?
I think you should worry about DRIVING when you're behind the wheel. that text message will be there when you pull off the road or get to your destination.
A California judge sentenced a woman to jail for a fatal crash that killed another driver when she was driving. She was supposedly paying her bills via texting at the same time.
Deborah Matis-Engle, 49, at the time of the accident was paying her bills with her cellphone and driving at the same time.
The cars in front of her stopped because of a construction zone, but she didn?t pay attention to the commotion; as she was texting, she hit the row of cars and killed a female driver.
Apparently she had paid some of the bills successfully just before the accident. But as she continued to pay her other bills, she collided with one of the cars and killed its driver, 46-year-old Petra Winn.
Investigators at the accident scene cited her for speeding and text messaging.
The judge in Redding, California sentenced her to six-years in prison.

I don't even talk on the phone when I'm behind the wheel, let alone text.
It's just as bad as drinking and driving imo.
I routinely honk at people on their phones while driving.
And even then it often doesn't get their attention
based on stopping distances it's quite a bit worse than DUI. I thought them equivalent but I've seen too many people zone out when on the phone to doubt it.

I suspect a guy who's a bit over the limit is probably paying a lot more attention to his surroundings and consequently driving better than some jerk lost in an intense conversation with a phone.
