Here's a link where you'll find "all" the automobiles, suvs or trucks that are for sale....you can plug in the "make" or just pull up all that are in your price range...I just purchased an '09 Caddy CTS that I found there......great place for viewing all makes and models......

Here's an "ADVANCED" search area where you can look for a particular vehicle>>>

http://www.cars.com/for-sale/advance...8705&pgId=2102

Here's all the vehicles with a maximum price of $5,000 (AS AN EXAMPLE)
when I plugged in a "Houston" "zip code" ..
( 46947 Used Vehicles within[All] Miles of 77001 )......
but, you can plug in your own "zip code" and the milage
you want to search within and get them for your area..
the first link is for prices starting from the "highest" and
the second is prices beginning with "lowest".....
click the "dropdown" for other ways to search.

Not sure exactly what you need the vehicle for, but since you need 4 doors my guess is parental taxi duties are involved.

I mean it really depends on the usage. Do you need lots of room, or just 4 doors? Are you doing long trips or is it just for hauling family and friends around town? Are you willing to pay more in gas in exchange for cheaper and more convenient maintenance?

I'd be looking for a cheap and well maintained, low mileage 1990's Cherokee, or maybe a Buick LeSabre.

Another good idea is to watch what taxi drivers are driving.
Good call on the taxi sightings.

I used to have a lesabre! it got broken in to and someone stole my lively hood from it. I couldnt even be in the car any more, so I sold it to the first kid with cash.

I have a 4Runner that gets 15mpg. I need it to haul stuff and my two large dogs, so the truck cant go any where.

I need a 4 door because i am a new parental unit and getting a car seat into a coupe SUCKS! i cannot sacrifice the gas mileage. i drive to houston a LOT to see my very sick mother. Ive found all kinds of cars from 2000-2007 with 100K or around that on craigslist. Im just looking for opinions on the cars you people drive or have driven, really.

I do like cherokees...

My son bought a Suzuki a while back . . . very comfortable, very reliable, 4 doors, too ugly for even the most desperate thief to steal and 30 mpg.

Here is a list of the most reliable cars I have owned.
My first couple of cars were mid '80s subaru station wagons. They were great and I abused them. I would recommend.
My '96 Tacoma has almost 300k on it and it runs great. Had a 4Runner with about 145k on it before I sold it and it ran great. Now, we have a Sienna van 2004 with just over 100k and haven't had any major problems and it has lots of room in it. All Toyotas I have had I had a mechanic friend of mine look at to check out. Got the van for tease of installing he car seats to carry the kids. very convenient.

Take a look at these....they lend very well to "car seats" and also get good mileage....
