I also highly recommend any and all of the Flashman series of historical novels by George MacDonald Fraser. They will leave you wiser and much more amused!
So, any new questions?

I do like some historical fiction but think it best to first learn the real History before muddying those waters.
PA & OR taught me a bit about state capitols. In PA neither Philly nor Pittsburgh are well placed as a capitol city. They're more interstate competitors much larger than the other PA cities.
Harrisburg makes a fine capitol and elevates Harrisburg's economic prospects. In Oregon Salem serves the same needs and benefits from the state institutions in town.
Canada's population hugs it's Southern border and like Brazil needs it's interior opened up. After intensive study (5 minutes with a map) I've determined the future of Canada is best served by moving your Capitol to Flin Flon Manitoba.
Face it, Josiah Flintabbatey Flonatin better personifies the average Canadian of English stock than mounties fallen into disrepute or Froggy trapper types gone native.
