Does your suburb allow backyard chickens?

Looking for suburbs that allow backyard chickens to use for reference while trying to have them added to the municipal code here in my neighborhood. I know a few of them around me but am looking for more Cook County cities and towns that allow them to help narrow my search!

Thanks!

I would love to have chickens in my back forty. I'm pretty sure Oak Lawn does not allow that, but have never looked into it. I'll be following this thread, see if you get any replies.

You are correct, no chickens in Oak Lawn (per chapter 3):

Sterling Codifiers, Inc.

There are some great resources out on the web to help get laws changed, but knowing a little about Oak Lawn, I highly doubt anyone is going to get them to change their tune on "hippy" issues like this.

People should be able to keep whatever domestic animal they want, especially if its for some kind of food.

It's just another way to keep poorer people out.

Incorporated parts do... I know theres a part of melrose park where you can have a horse in your backyard and they can't do anything.

A friend of mine has chickens, he lives in Chicago proper, but just north of Oak Lawn, very west of Chicago. He has I think 3 birds now, and gets a dozen+ eggs a week.

The footprint of his coop isn't very big either, it's maybe 6 ft by 3 ft.

I know, there were news stories about people raising chickens in the city, in Chicago. I think that is a great idea.

I notice some replies on here that refer to city ordinances. How can I find out about chickens in my village online? Or, is calling city hall the best idea?

Thanks.
