Hello all. Just wondering if anyone has any insight on the industry in Durango? Are good paying jobs available, or do you have to either be rich or retired to live good there?
I feel like Durango is in somewhat of a bubble when it comes to the effects of the economy. Yeah, there has been some lost of jobs, but people are still spending money here. It is definitely fast becoming a rich/retired person's town.
Thanks for the info. My wife and I go up there at least once a year, and have considered moving up there, and we would like to take advantage of some of the cheaper real estate prices, but since we are not rich nor retired, we will need to find some other sort of income to help pay the mortgage. Don't want to become another statistic.
A good friend of mine lives there. He works for Fort Lewis College, which is a major employer there. There are quite a range of jobs available at a school like that, you might have luck with something like that.
I live in Cortez, 45 miles away, and try to get to Durango a couple times a month. As far as Industry goes, there isn't much compared to other places. As stated before a lot of the employment is based on the college. I guess it depends what kind of job you are looking for. There are a lot of food distributors there and other service type jobs. It is a beautiful place though isn't it!
anyone know how the building industry is doing in Durango?
As in private homes and commercial building???
There is SOME construction, but not a whole heck of a lot. I know a few customs home builders and dirt work contractors, and after talking to them, the general consensus is that it just isn't happening right now. A few of the smaller operations have gone under or are about to.
