Agree. Also, pack out what you packed in. Leave the area better than when you arrived.

x 100,000. make sure to take a few big trash bags and collect the trash you find, even if you didn't leave it. I typically collect over a dozen pieces of trash. Don't throw non-burnable trash in your campfire. Beer bottles, cans & wrappers should go in the trash bag, not the campfire.

We always try to leave an area, any area, cleaner than when we found it. But, it is irritating to haul out someone else's trash just because they are too lazy to do so! And, we always end up picking junk out of the fire circles (when camping in established sites). On one hunting trip, down around Pagosa Springs, we were setting up camp and the wind would change and we would get a whiff of this really bad odor. Finally found the source...some idiots had cut the head off of their kill and left the head laying out in the open! Nice to put out bait around a campsite!! Just doesn't take that long to bury something like that. Toted out a lot of their trash, as well...

Yes ... but there is no generalized set length of time for all areas ... a ~14 day limit seems to be the current norm for many parks / recreational areas and campgrounds. Some campgrounds, possibly recreation/wilderness areas may require reservations during the summer and perhaps other months ... may be closed during specific dates ... others may be closed to certain types of recreation ... some types of camping areas may require a permit which might denote a length of stay.

*** . for specific rules, regulations and details for outdoor recreation activities such as camping ... you should first visit sites online and/or visit a nearby ranger station to ask questions, find relevant literature & reading materials and area specific information ... (campground hosts also may have pertinent information about camping at specific sites, doesn't hurt to ask first)

Campground Directory and National Forest Campgrounds

you can view the rules on the national forests to see how long they allow stays for national forest.

Technically, you cannot hike off of a designated trail or camp outside of a designated camp site, except during a hunting season you carry a tag for, during which you can go anywhere by foot or horseback, but only on designated jeep trails with motorized vehicles and camp anywhere in the national forest except where reclamation is taking place.
