Bounce2011 - In your situation I would suggest Greenville as well. I have a place in Greenville and in downtown Columbia and the job situation as well as the general economy and growth is far better in Greenville. Columbia is a bit more liberal with USC (much, much larger than Clemson or Furman or other upstate schools) and has a bigger bar/party scene, if thats your thing. Greenville is more conservative but is growing at a tremendous rate - especially places to eat, things to do, outdoor activities, etc. Columbia has the history - and of course the government. Tons of agency positions in Columbia - but the last 18 months have been tight even in that sector. Property taxes are MUCH higher in Columbia than in Greenville. State income tax (flat 7%) everywhere.
