Thinking about catching a Wings game - any recommendations?

I'm thinking about coming up for a Red Wings game. Any suggestions for lodging and eats around the Joe?

I love going to see the red wings. When ever I go to a game I eat at Pizza Papalis. It is the best Chicago style pizza I have had (I have never been to Chicago). Pizza Papalis is in Greektown so you could stay at the Greektown casino. Greektown even has free shuttles to the game.

It's hard to go wrong with any of the bars in the area. Even if you don't drink, the food is pretty good.

It depends what you are looking for, but there are a lot of nice little gems in Detroit.

Right by the Joe the busiest spot to grab a bite / drink before the game is Cobo Joe's. Pretty standard bar - old and not polished, loud, and you'll have a good time.

If you're going to the Wings game, you're not restricted to stuff around the Joe. There's our public transportation, called the People Mover, that's $.50 that had a Joe Louis stop.

If you like breweries, Detroit Beer Co is the place I end up at most downtown, it's a half a block from the people mover, and they'll give you free tokens to boot. Price / menu is comparable to an Applebees, but the food is a few notches better in quality.

Greektown as noted above has several good restaurants. Actually, all of them are good. Also a people mover stop, plus nice access to the casino.

Many of the other large bars like Nemos also run shuttle service to and from the game.

Many things to choose from!

I agree with Grand Trunk and Detroit Beer Co. Also, if you are at Greektown, Jacoby's is about 2 blocks south. We usually park at the casino and take the people mover to the game. A lot easier than trying to drive near the Joe before/after the game.

Haven't been there in a while but we used to head over to the "Post bar" (downtown) after the game.............You'll often run into a couple of the players there.

1+ on this. Taking the people mover from Greektown Casino works out great. Show up a little early and hit some of the bars in the area like the Detroiter. It makes getting outa there a little easier for sure.

Have fun!!
