reading writing

My nephews were born in 1995 and 1997. If I send them a card or note in cursive/longhand/writing, they have told me they have trouble reading it. My sister (their mother) has told me to continue sending them written letters and cards, because she wants them to be able to read handwriting.
I don't hand write a lot of stuff to them. Just birthday cards, or the tags on their gifts, or a reminder note if I'm at their house.
Does anyone else still do this?

I continue to write out Christmas cards and birthday cards however i'm in a minority as it seems most people who can even be bothered usually send me Ecards.
