What did you learn in school?

One of the things I learned is that there are a lot of really great teachers out there that really care about their students and are passionate and knowledgeable about the subjects they teach.

I also discovered many that were in the wrong profession.

But seriously, yeah about the same. I had some who still inspire me, and a couple that still get me PO'd just thinking about them. Over all, I now know a couple teachers locally that I like and respect and hope they never have to deal with a little snot like I was.

favorite classes

Favorite classes, in other words, the subjects that I still use on a regular basis or that inspired me to investigate them further:
Grade school--spelling and grammar
High school--algebra II*
College--my journalism classes, of course, since that was my major; etymology; and a class whose name I cannot remember that covered preventive medicine and other similar social situations that were designed to keep problems from occurring in the first place.
.
*Why algebra II, if my background is in writing? Algebra was the only math class I ever enjoyed. I've said that it was probably because it was mostly words and not numbers. But I actually found a use for the X and Y coordinates when I started laying out newspaper pages using a computer program. As I moved the various articles around on the screen to find the best fit for them, I could see the coordinates moving back and forth on the graphs. I nearly fell out of my chair the first time I used the program because that was something I had never expected!

I learned that my high school english teacher, her long blonde hair, tight mini skirts really inspired my creative writing skills.
