Hole-in-the-wall Mexican food

You know what I'm talking about. The kinda of place you would NEVER walk into if it WASN'T Mexican food. The kinda place you would run away from if it was say, Italian cuisine.

Don't they have the BEST bang for your buck? We have this little place next door to my job that could easily charge a dollar or 2 more a plate and still have business running rampant. My favorite is the barbacoa and pico tacos. As for plates, I dig their tamales. Their servings are ginormous. Or maybe I am just a small girl and they are too big for me, personally. It's called Los Vega and I am a regular. YUM! Their tea is pretty bangin' as well.

What's your favorite hole-in-the-wall in your area and what do you love that they offer?

Maybe I'm missing something up here in Montreal, because I know of very few real Mexican places, and the ones I do know are upscale, pricey and in a totally different part of town from where I live. There's nothing anywhere near my neck of the woods that I'm aware of, which is pretty hopeless considering we have just about every other cuisine under the sun fairly close by.

I love Mexican food, but I just don't get it

Back when I lived in AZ, growing up there was this place called 'The Tamale Factory' and it was run out of a house. They ended up moving to a building (St. Marys Mexican Food) and I believe its still the same family that owns runs it.

Man... That place was tasty. I still dream of their tortillas.

That's what I'm talking about. HUGE portions. I'm a small girl, I can eat on a plate from my favorite place for another day. I'd be willing to pay more it's so good and large. Any time my friends come in from out of town I bring them here or to this pub & grill on the river.
