Not the first time we've had horrible storms. The local Skywarn guys talk about a 1985 outbreak that killed 88 people.
The F5 that started around Newton Falls - if it had landed a few miles west, it would have hit Ravenna. If it had traveled a few miles north, it would have hit Warren. A few miles south, Youngstown. All three are larger population centers that would have likely resulted in a lot more deaths.
1985 United States
With population densities increasing, expect larger death tolls for any given storm.
