The comment about the watermelon seed is an old joke. If a woman swallowed a watermelon seed it would grow into a baby in her belly. The joke is probably from the fact that a very pregnant woman really does look like she is about to give birth to a watermelon.
(A similar joke today is that she's going to give birth to a basketball.)
