Garage Door Opener Conversion?

Has anyone converted a garage door spring assist from horizontal coils to a torsion bar?

I have a 16' wooden paneled door that has the horizontal springs along the rails for opening assist. I would like to install a wall mounted opener but they work only with torsion bars, thus my question.

I've seen it done a few times but the amount of cranking down in it scares the heck out of me and would rather pay a few bucks to the experts to ensure it is done correctly.
