I'll throw my vote in for the zoo downtown and the Children's museum. My daughter has been to the zoo at least 5 times and loves it every single time!

The Battleship of Texas is awesome. I was there 45 years ago and made my second visit a couple of weeks ago with my daughters (7 and 11). We loved it!

Is the Children's Museum by Rice? We went to some type of museum by Rice.

Also we went to the Science Museum and enjoyed that a lot.

The museum of natural science always has a good exhibit for adults and kids! I used to go there all the time! Splashtown during the summer is close by!

I second the Museum of Natural Science. I loved the children's section, planetarium, Imax, dinosaurs, and butterfly garden as a child. Your kids might also enjoy running up and down the hill right next to it at the Miller Outdoor Theater.

A touch off the beaten path for family's (but still friendly), is going to the Orange Show, or the Beer Can House (both run by the Art Car people, I believe).

Oh, and paddle boats by the zoo.
