Wild Onion, Lake Barrington

This brewpub in the far northwest suburbs of Chicago has been around for awhile, but their beers have recently taken a turn for the better. Plus, they have an awesome banquet facility if you're looking to host a wedding or something and would like to serve good beer.

Beer Bars In/Around Crystal Lake

Duke's Ale House in Crystal Lake and Barley House in Algonquin appear to be the best local options for bars that serve craft beer. Any hidden gems around here I should know about?

Are most of these places out in the suburbs? I wonder why the city does not have as many brewpubs? I know of 4 actually in the city. But the southside doesn't have any.

I've also heard limestone is a solid choice. Rock bottom is also good, but definitely a chain, still good beer though.

From my experience, Id say Rock Bottom has beer & food as good (sometimes better on the beer, depending on the brewer) than Limestone

+1 Duke's Ale House

I used to work there years ago. Got bored with the burbs so I moved to the city. I stop in there whenever I go back. Always have great selection on draft!!

Two Brothers, Emmet's, Piece, Haymarket (is it open yet? Pete's a helluva brewer, so I have high hopes for the beer), Ram, ...the list goes on.

Lunar Brewing in Villa Park is nice, a bit expensive but a cool small, small place to hang.
