Double that for Galena. I took the wifee there on our 3rd anniversary, going back next month for our 12th. Hopefully, the kids will like the horse-drawn hayrides & eagle watch. Their shopping area was a plus for the wife too.

The bluffs along the Illinois river around Pittsfield are scenic.

Another vote for Galena

Another vote here from Freeport on Route 20 through Galena is beautiful and scenic, especially in the fall. Head west on the Freeport 20 exit off I-90. I say Freeport 20 because there is a business 20 which will take you through Rockford, not very scenic. A stop off in Galena is a must. Plan on spending some time in Galena, there's lots to see and do in this historic old city. The city is a popular tourist destination known for its history, historical architecture, ski & golf resorts. Galena was the residence of Ulysses S. Grant and several other war generals.

Giant City park in southern IL has some fantastic areas. Picturesque does not cover it in the least. As for the wineries down here, just wow. I like Von Jakob and Pomona wineries a great deal.

If you're into watersports in Southern IL then you have to check out Carlyle Lake. It's a great sailing lake.

Anywhere along the Spoon River.

Cant forget about Historic Lewistown, where Edgar Lee Masters (author of Spoon River Anthology) is from.
