Northwest Indiana - THE REGION

A place to discuss NW Indiana, also known to locals as THE REGION. Includes Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties.

This is steel country. The south shore of Lake Michigan is not well known to most people, other than Gary, Indiana, which deserves some of it's reputation.

The area is home to several national parks and is quite unique with the different landscapes of forests, beach, rural-yet-not farmland feel, as well as its proximity to Chicago.

I'd say Gary deserves all of it's reputation.

Gary needs to just be closed off from the rest of the world and the steel mills a big tax break.

I've lived in La Porte County for the last 5 years. I agree with the opinions on Gary. Is there any other major industries in the area besides steel, corn, and soybeans?

Not really. We got a few small railroads, that's about it.
