I usually fish Matanzas Inlet in Crescent Beach, but that may be a bit far for you from Jacksonville. It also sucks because you can't drive on the beach near the inlet anymore, but fishing is still good.

I would recommend Ponte Vedra Beach area, just south of Sawgrass; there is a park area and there's always plenty of beach for everyone.

In addition, you can drive down to Vilano Beach/St Aug and halfway down is a gas station; park there and walk down to the beach. You can buy beer there, etc.

I have seen quite a few people fishing of A1A from ponte vedra beach to St augustine... They seem to go at low tide... I could not tell if the tide was coming in or going out and forgot to check, but enough people and they were catching fish.

I have never lived near the beach until recently.

I am looking for a shop to set me up with the equipment and to impart some knowledge on surf fishing.

Any suggestions?

Matanzas Inlet is a good spot to fish. I also have good luck at Vilano
