If you like the bigger schools then UK is great. I've known several UK grads that come out knowing what they needed when they went out into the real world. Their football team is pissing me off I'm one of the two or three people that does not follow UK basketball. The fan base is nothing short of rabid though.

Anyway...If you are looking at bigger schools then UK is a great one.

What I like about UK is that it is a cutting edge school, and yet it also has a great community college system! I taught mathematics at Elizabethtown CC in the early '90s, and the support from its parent (UK) was excellent! Great faculty.

You will be happy at UK. Its a nice campus with great sports programs. I don't really seen any downside to UK.

it depends on what you are wanting to go into thee 100 level classes are usually huge classes close to 200 people+ but once you past those its great.

U.K. is a very liberal school - if you are a conservative person you're gonna have to adjust your opinions on papers turned in to professors to earn a descent grade. Great sports program - easy scholarships if you are gifted in that area. Not all that great scholasticly. (sp??). If you can afford it, I recommend Transylvania University - to notch place or Centre College in Danville. We also have the new franchise-colleges - Spencerian, etc.

Great college town to live in. Low crime, taxes are manageable (today) and the city is clean.

I am currently at UK (5th year) and love it. Been here the whole time and it has everything I need. Lexington has awesome bars (not many regular places though) and lots of stuff to do, including UK athletic events.

I do agree with 4639j, VERY liberal school from the administration down. All the papers I've completed while being here have been edited to the instructors satisfaction. Unfortunately many times to include points I do not agree with.

It depends on your major, of course. I did computer science, and the program was okay. I think most of the engineering department is the same. The town is a hub for a number of engineering businesses, though, so that's a huge selling point.

UK_Midwest does have a point, though. Most professors are unabashed socialists.

It was great when I went there back in the mid-1970's. The campus is beautiful but too long for me. You'll get tired of riding buses. They really had a great campus for viewing movies that you won't see anywhere else. They had a movie theater in the Student Center when I was there but I saw movies in a dozen different places besides that. They really pushed video as art in my time there. The faculty was very pushy about you accepting their point of view which is not a good thing IMO. It was the beginning of the PC era and we all know how that turned out. From what I hear they still do that. They pushed their agenda in every class even when it wasn't connected to the subject matter of the class at all.

I left UK after one year because I much prefer a more rural setting (and Lexington is double the size it was now) and my future wife was attending Morehead St.. I loved that school although overall it wasn't the school UK was. UK had a very high standard of excellence when I went there. I think they have dropped off some since then. My niece went there about 10 years ago and it was way too much about the Kentucky aristocracy society at that time.

One thing is if you intend to drive anywhere invest in a map or a GPS. You'll need it.

Me too what year were you there? Lee Todd is (was) my godfather (they were my godparents, an my parents were their son's) I grew up with Troy, knew him since the crib, and still one of the few people i cold tell anything and not worry about judging.

Lee actually took me to lunch one day and was the reason for me going into CS. He suggested a double major with EE. I wish i had of listened. I really love EE stuff now, but just did not understand any of it then. At that point, i barely knew how to turn on a computer, so it was hard of enough of a learning curve itself.
