+1 for Laguna Beach (coves) and Salt Creek.

I also like the privacy of Newport and Seal Beach OR HB or Balboa if you're looking for something busier.

I like Laguna beach for the aesthetic values. The people are a little stuck up, but you'll encounter this at most beaches that aren't Venice.

I'll have to +1 Zuma Beach. It's the best. Easy parking, not crowded and good views.

As someone who doesn't actually enjoy the "beach" that much, at least not actually swimming in it, I have to say Venice Beach is my favorite, due to the freakshow

My favorite beach is Hermosa Beach. It stays somewhat empty and it's close to home. Growing up I liked Manhattan a lot more than I do now.

Lots of Hermosa love here - I dig it. Hermosa is where I learned to really appreciate the beach, so it gets my vote.

Id have to say Manhattan beach. Although it sure has changed over the last 10 years from when I used to live down there. I must say they have a lot to offer for everyone from kids to surfers. The night seen is not so hot but if you just drive down the street a way to Hermosa its much better.
