Before you go solar there's one thing you should know . . . SURGE!!

go around to EVERY electric thing in the house and add up WATTS. times that by 5. That's how much solar it takes to run your house. I did it. TOTALLY, completely no power but SOLAR. When your appliances power up they SURGE!! tripping inverters.
I ended up with solar panels EVERYWHERE and about 50 batteries. Batteries are explosive, need ventalation and maintenence. SOLAR is NOT FREE electricity!! after the original purchase comes maintenance. In your car, depending on usage, weather etc., you need to change your battery about once every 3 to 5 yrs. Times that by 50. The inverters need replacing every 8 to 10 yrs, yes, there will be one guy who will say his lasted 37 but AVERAGE is about 8 to 10.
Each day new inproovements are being made to solar energy but trust me on this, you will need about 5 times the TOTAL watt usage to have reliable power. refrigerators and AC units use most of the power.

Also look into the new style wind turbines.
They are quiter, and more efficient than old styles.
Like the ones Jay Leno uses in his garage to make power.
If you live where the wind blows steady, I think its far better than solar.
When I build my new house its going to have 2 wind turbines.
