I just love having so much so close, but I wouldn't want to live in LA either. We live about 45minutes to 1 hour north and I think it's perfect. The city is still close enough to be convenient, but we stay out of the traffic and crowds most of the time.

I love having so much so close and I've never lived another place like SoCal. Mountains, desert, lakes/rivers, beach, coastal drive, theater/concerts, etc. I love the freedom and ability to have so much to do. Sometimes I can't stand the actual city though, but I love the area.

The weather is number one. My avocado tree is number two. And my house being worth an insane amount is number three.

I have lived in LA as an adult for 35 years. I've never carried a gun, never had the need for one and never wanted to carry one. I go where I want and do what I want and have never restricted my activities because I've felt unsafe without a gun. Maybe I'm a sheeple, but so be it. Frankly, I have no understanding of this insane desire to walk around with a gun in your pocket.

By the way, I grew up on the east coast and felt a heck of a lot less safe there than I have in L.A.

Objective about LA...

I too have lived here all my life and many times have wanted to move to a beautiful, quiet location...just never did. My kids have grown up here and we all talk about moving "somewhere," but so far we haven't made any effort.
We have great friends and so much to do in the area; boating, fishing, kayaking, shopping, eating and "connecting" with other drivers on the freeway (haha!)

I finally admit that sometimes I RANT about LA and but most of the time I DON'T!

And if I had a gun in my pocket, I could go to Watts Towers safely on Saturday night?

You missed my point friend. You stated that you go where you want to go and are not restricted because of not feeling safe. My point is..... you are always safe... we all are... until we are not! How sad is it that if you had a real desire to go to the Watts Towers on a Saturday Night... you simply can NOT do so. You know it, I know it and we all know that to be the case. I am a retired LAPD officer who worked Southeast Division (AKA Watts) and have more than a little experience on the subject of tourists being on the wrong side of the yellow tape. Now that I live in a state that allows anyone without a criminal record to carry.... and we are directly across from Washington DC (which has anti gun laws like California)...... I see and live the absolute reality. That reality is.... DC has one of the highest gun violence and murder rates in the country. because... only the bad guys have guns! While.... just across a bridge, the crime rate is so low (Violent crimes) that it's almost unreal. That is because all of those gangsters and criminals across the river understand that every other man woman and 18 year old here in Virginia, is likely to be carrying a firearm. I mean... It took me a while at first to get used to seeing women walking dogs with a holster on or teens at the local burger joint with guns on their hips... and that is just the open carriers. Most folks conceal their weapons here. Anyway... sorry to get into a whole gun/anti gun thing. It's just that having seen so many innocent victims murdered ... and knowing that they were not allowed to be able to defend themselves if they had chosen to do so.... it saddens me. I would never want someone that does not like guns to carry one. But I never understood those who want that right taken from the ones that do. Stay safe!

I agree with that, and I appreciate your service. Violent crime has decreased precipitously here in recent years and it is largely thanks to the LAPD.

As for the relationship of gun ownership and crime - it is argued over because it is arguable. There is no clear evidence either way. Some studies show a decrease in crime with more lax gun ownership and some show an increase. Most of them are methodologically flawed, and in any case, the question itself is hard to answer.

Here is a summary from the NY Times:
