What always got me was the wild horses. They roam free around ft Polk.

Did a rotation through JRTC there years ago...

I don't think I ever stopped sweating... even after taking a shower I just couldn't dry off.

From what I have read, a lot of Vietnam veterans were sent thru Ft. Polk prior to going overseas, in order to get "acclimated" to the heat and humidity.

Dunno how accurate that is, or how much it helped.

That's true. They had Vietnamese villages built and even did survival training there.
I went to Ft Polk in the summer of 98 to get acclimated to the winters in Bosnia.
We had to keep wearing our flak jackets during the soaring heat and humidity so we would be used to wearing them in Bosnia.
That didn't make much sense because
1) Bosnia was cold as hell and we wanted to wear our flak jackets for the extra warmth
2) We had 2 months between Ft Polk and Bosnia to become unaccustomed to wearing our flak jackets

I'll be getting my PCS orders this week and Ft. Polk is looking like a good possibility. When I list it as my number one choice I think it's a gimme, seeing as that it's so high-demand and all. I hope that I'll be there soon.

They have the fake "Die Infadel" towns out there now. I've seen some fine horses I'd like to catch out there.
