Pizza in New England is sweet first. I'm used to Chicago pizza, it's all cheese-forward! I like a pie with cheese so thick, it's like a frozen-over lake. You can get pizza with the cheese tougher than the crust in the heartland. I miss it out here.
I recommend Franco's on Moody Street in Waltham. Its a dive but the pizza is the best I have had since moving here from NY. NY Style and made by Italians...
I grew up in a Philly suburb in NJ, so I'm used to more of a NY style pizza. What really baffles me, though, is why all the pizza places in Western MA cut their pies (round ones) into squares - I can see that with a square pizza (like a Sicilian pie), but a round one? I get laughed at by our local pizza guys when I ask them to "cut it like a pie". Why square cuts?
Penguin Pizza in Boston at the corner of Francis and Tremont across from the Mission Bar is amazing. You can also usually get a Bluebird Bitter (Conniston Brewery, ENG) with your pie, one of the greatest beers I've ever had the priviledge of basting in.
