We recently had someone in town from WA for work. During a conversation I mentioned the "yoop". What's that, she said?. You know, the UP. Nope.... Which started any entirely longer conversation.

I'd be curious to know how many life-long Michiganders have never been to the UP?

I've only been to the UP once (lived in Michigan most of my life) and really loved it up there. Slower pace of life and people seem much friendlier.

Something I didn't realize until I was snowboarding up in the western UP is that part of our state is in the Central time zone.

Who knew?

Haha, yep I'm from one of the counties that are in the central time zone. The counties that border Wisconsin (Dickinson, Menominee, Iron, and Gogebic) are all on central time.

I lived there for 5 years. It was definately a love hate thing. While I was there, I loved it. The fishing is endless and I love the isolation at times. However, after I moved to a more "city" area in the lower penisula it makes you realize how nice it is to be so close to doing great things like catching a hockey game, hitting a casino, amazing bars and any type of restaurant you can imagine.

But I do miss living in the UP.
