Favorite brewery in Minneapolis/St. Paul?

Let's hear your favorite!

The ones I know of that brew in the cities:
  • Summit
  • Surly
  • Flat Earth

I'm sure there's got to be more though.

So far I've toured Summit, and I go down to Flat Earth about once a month for Growlers.

I have to say Flat Earth is easily my favorite. They're so nice there, they'll sit and talk to you about their beer forever, you can tell they really love it. They are generous with the samples, and the growler prices are very reasonable. Plus I love going down there and being surprised by whatever new thing they've brewed up.

I also love Flat Earth! They are just a couple blocks away and nothing like fresh Northwest Passage!

I've done tours for Surly and Flat Earth, would like to get to Summit some day for a tour. If you can make a Surly tour you're in for a treat!

I've only toured Flat Earth of those three, shameful I know. I really enjoyed the tour there and look forward to going back. I love the beer from all of them, a bit easier on the pocket book to fire back Summit than Surly or Flat Earth. I thought they kind of missed the mark when they did that Belgian for their unchained series though.

Make sure you get to Town Hall brew pub as well, they do good things.

Surly is tops in my books for the beer and the tour experience.
Flat Earth would be #2
Summit, well...I wasn't very impressed. Everything is so automated at Summit that the brewers seem like button pushers instead of real brewers. And their flagship beers aren't very impressive to me anymore.

If you're including brewpubs in your breweries list:
Minneapolis Town Hall is supposed to have a good tour and they have great beers.
Rock Bottom has a good educational tour and some great beers too.
Great Waters has some great beers but they don't really do tours.

If you're willing to venture out of Minneapolis / St. Paul a little, there's Lift Bridge in Stillwater. I don't know if they do tours or not but it might be worth looking into.

I would love to do a tour with Surly. I grew up in Brooklyn Center but have never been to the brewery. They make some great beer and are really starting to move from cult status into full blown craft brewer!

Check that...I found out that Lift Bridge is currently contracting with another brewery while they build in Stillwater.
