Iron Range

Grew up on the Iron Range. Joined the military and enjoy going back home, but honestly there isn't much up there anymore.

Grew up on the north side of the range in the sticks. Joined the service and when I came back I was shocked at what was there. In six years every tree around my house for miles around was cut down. The range is basically a ghost town. I haven't been back in almost ten years now.

Born and raised north of Virginia and moved to MPLS in 1991. You can take the Ranger from the Range but you can't take the Range from the Ranger!!!

I miss it, but the work just isn't there for me...

It's funny the longer between visits the more out of touch you get with the Range. It's like going back in time when I go up there now.

i try to go to the Iron Range Off Highway Vehicle Recreation Area in Gilbert at least once a year. Made the trip twice this year. It is a great spot to go have some fun.

I'm hoping to do some camping this summer, would it be worth the trip from the Des Moines area?

I'd say it would be worth it, but I may be biased. Grew up in the Twin Cities and I enjoy going up to that area. It's beautiful in its own way. Near Lake Superior, Gilbert OHV park, and plenty of good camping. State parks or not.

I say go with an open mind to new adventures and I would be shocked if you didn't enjoy it.

Take in the underground mine tour at Tower-Soudan on Lake Vermillion. I cannot believe they mined like that. Been to Life of Riley resort every year since 1969.
