Nevada, Missouri

Pronounced Nah vey duh. A few months back an old bar was remodeled and opened as Cherry's (the owner is Dave cherry). They serve fresh hand breaded items like chicken livers, mushrooms etc. And cold beer or mixed drinks.

Nevada, our town, is older than the state of Nevada and even the Nevada territory, so who pronounces it right? There is also a Nevada, Iowa, and several others in the US and all pronounce it like we do.

Before its incorporation in 1855, the small community was previously known as both Fair View and Hog-Eye. The second name was considered to be degrading, and the first name had already been used for the name of a post office in Fairview, Missouri. The town's name was changed to Nevada after Nevada City, California by circuit and county clerk DeWitt C. Hunter, who had tried his luck in the California Gold Rush of 1849.

My vote is to change it back to Hog-Eye. There is no messing up with a name like that!
