I got a Prelude I used to have shipped from Dallas, TX to Long Beach, CA for around $400 on a semi - so, for future reference, there are companies out there that do it for cheaper. They may not be the big brands, but I had a good experience - they were nice and on time.

So you didnt have to pay $500? Maybe its because Im going one way or something.
U hauls one way rates are way more than the daily local rate. They include a number of days to make the trip at a lesurly pace and load and unload. It also includes what Uhaul feels they need to get repostion equipment.
It also depends on your pickup/drop off locations. There were times of year in college that you could rent a trailer for nothing because of all the one way rentals up to school left them doing what they could to get them back off the lot.
