the first video i saw

I remember the first time I saw a music video. I had no clue what it was.
The Bee Gees were on The Merv Griffin Show soon after Saturday Night Fever was released, so this would have been late 1977 or early 1978. Instead of the trio singing, Merv showed the Gibbs mouthing "Stayin' Alive" while the brothers walked around a bombed out area. Barry said it was the old Combat! set.
I couldn't figure out what that bombed out scene had to do with the movie. I don't remember any of the Gibbs explaining what the short film was that Merv showed. I was expecting to watch a scene from Fever. It wasn't until the early 80s and MTV came along that I first heard the term "music video."
Many years later I did see the video for the second time and it made much more sense to me!

I also remember the first MTV videos. I watched them for hours and was amazed. Yep, that was the "old days!"
