Diana Hitchens, Autumne Murray and Jessica Hitchens staged a "nurse-in" at the Hollister store at the Concord Mall in Wilmington, Del., on Saturday.
I knew that these women were TRYING to get "harassed". Come on people... Sure, have it be legal, but there should be a reasonable attempt at maintaining modesty. I have a feeling that these women were likely in fact EXPOSING THEMSELVES while breastfeeding. They were trying to "test" this mall. I think they should be arrested for disorderly conduct.
Oh, full disclosure--- My wife has breastfed all of our children. NEVER OUT IN THE OPEN IN A PUBLIC PLACE. Her choice, not because she is afraid it isn't legal. There will always be folks out there that just want to push the limits and then whine about it when they reach the limit.

The way I see it, if we allow infants in public, occasionally, the little bastards are either going to be eating their lunches in public, or screaming their heads off in public, and the decision as to which it's going to be really isn't up to Mom.
With that in mind, it's easier to avert one's eyes than to avert one's ears.

I disagree. My three children (all breastfed) do not scream and fuss in public because they are hungry. Even so, I am not necessarily "against" breastfeeding in public.
---My point here is that I am willing to bet that these "ladies" staging this were there for the SOLE PURPOSE of exposing themselves in the name of breastfeeding. Doing it in such a way that was inappropriate. I think that a mother can use reasonable covering in circumstances where public breastfeeding is necessary.
---I also believe that if the mother doesn't want to feed in public, she can find a way to not feed in public. Our children have had a feeding schedule set by my wife. So she knows when she needs to be in an appropriate location. Often, she will either do it in the car with shades pulled or in the changing room of a store. She finds a way.

That's an early step in political activism: raising awareness of the issue. You don't do that by following the status quo. You do that by disrupting the routine. Their goal was to raise the issue and compel the conversation. I'd say they succeeded.

Your wife's schedule was apparently pretty flexible. I know plenty of women who are on the go all day long and have to cram feeding time in between all the other responsibilities they've taken on. I don't see why they should fix their schedules to avoid offending prudish sensibilities.
Personally, I think if the rest of the family is having their meal, Junior should be eating his.

I still think that if a woman uses reasonable discretioin and isn't just all having her boob out in the open it is likely to be less of an issue. I'm not saying they shouldn't be able to breastfeed in public. I'm just saying what the heck is wrong with a little modesty!
And my wife stays pretty busy. Between the three kids and homeschooling 2 of them with groceries, laundry, and all the homemaking stuff going on. She schedules her responsibilities so that she can feed our littlest one.
