How to die in Oregon.

Being a long time supporter of Jack Kavorkian and applauding the finale of Terry Shivo, I've always been so impressed and always admired those brave enough to allow doctor asisted suicide to become an option for terminally ill patients. Right now watching the documentary "How to die in Oregon" what a heart wrenching story that showcases peoples choice and progression as they get sicker and move toward their decision to pull their own plug. Finally America is beginning to wake up to a much more compationate and humane option than the will of administrative types and religious fanatics who want to control your life.

Then why did they arrest that 79(ish) year old for selling those 'helium self destruct' kits. (They were assisted suicide kits on the internet)

From what I remember reading, they had a whole swat team break in and arrest this guy. Dont get TOO excited yet. Those administrative type are still WELL within power. And they stay in business by spending taxpayer $$$ to bust people like this.

^^^^^^^

getting better does not always equal cured.... There will be holdbacks... america has lagged well behind europe for quite some time now when it comes to improving itself and moving forward (mainly thanks to the republicans for holding us back due to fear of the new).

While much of europe can have adult talks on such subjects, america's attitude against change is at best similar to the whiny teenager that thinks they know everything while looking dumb to everyone else.

I think too, that it has to do with the religious element in the U.S. These religious people want to control all aspects of things that violate their beliefs. They just don't get that not everyone thinks or believes the way they do. I keep waiting for the issue to enter the mainstream again. Eventually, someone will reignite the issue again, and I believe that Obama would make it a Federal mandate.

Seems like it's one guy... Europeans don't appreciate firearms, among a variety of other travesties. They can get bent, as far as I'm concerned.

Well, it seems you are a true independent of sorts... Judging from your posts I have seen. I was mostly referring to Rainbow and RedJeep.. I'm sure there are others.

Oh, and I don't think that the liberal types here in the US are very appreciative of firearms either (the majority anyway..)..

I think most liberals don't really give a rat's ass one way or another on firearms issues. We're a long way past the Clinton AWB in '94. The few who do have strong opinions on it are in places like Massachusetts, Chicago and California.

But take a look at the swing states.
Colorado (2003)
Florida (1987)
Iowa (2011)
Nevada (1995)
New Hampshire (Before 1986)
North Carolina (1995)
Ohio (2004)
Virginia (1995)
Wisconsin (2011)

The date is when each state adopted "Shall Issue" concealed carry laws. 8 of these 9 states generally allow Open Carry (Florida being the exception). If the voters in all these states were as polarized on gun issues as they are on most other partisan issues, we should see some pretty mixed signals on gun rights in these states.

My problem with Europe

1. They don't like firearms.
2. They love Muslims.
3. They are not FREE people.
4. They are not FREE people.
5. They are LAZY. Really who needs to take a nap in the middle of the day other than kids 6 and under.
6. Grease.

I understand. That is why I said a MAJORITY of liberals. There are two very general sides in this country (of which you seem to fall somewhat in the middle...
Here is an illustration (that I like, anyway) that I think shows how these two sides cannot relate to one another. Me? I couldn't imagine living somewhere where many people had never driven a car, or got around mostly on public transit. Others couldn't imagine being able to walk out into their back yard and fire off an AK-47... Of course, the ones who live in an urban environment and haven't spent any time outside of that are more prone to say there needs to be more gun restricions. But me, who can walk outside and shoot if I want to any time of day or night, don't want those folks deciding for me. Unfortunately with population growth and growth of urban areas the latter will overwhlm the former. That is a direction we are going.

I do understand your point... BUT if you look at the states that are clearly quite liberal they will generally have higher gun restricions.
