One day, 60 legislative offices, 21 states, coast to coast. There were soup kitchens and food drives for the hungry and homeless, health clinics for the medically abandoned, a Chicago blues fest for the economically distressed, and in Boston, a colonial era town crier read a bill of attainder against the sins of Wall Street.

As NNU Executive Director Rose Ann DeMoro said, speaking to hundreds in San Diego, ?we heard a lot about hope in the last election. Where is that hope? It?s right here, right now. We?re here to say, Wall Street, you?ve taken and you?ve taken and you?ve given nothing back. You?ve abandoned this country, and abandoned our people. We?re asking every legislator in this country to sign a pledge to tax Wall Street to fund Main Street.?

?We?re here because Wall Street got bailed out, and Main Street was left out,? said Massachusetts Nurses Association President Donna Kelly-Williams in Boston. ?Big banks, investment houses, and other financial giants who wrecked our economy and who gambled with our mortgages and pensions need to return some of that enormous wealth to Main Street. It?s time to take it back.?

"We're here because we will no longer be silent about our patients who refuse life-saving medicines or reject diagnostic procedures and postpone taking medications because they can't afford the high co-pays and deductibles," said Sandra Gallegos in Pueblo, Co.

?Let?s bail out working-class Americans,? said Chicago RN Dawn Peckler in Merrillville, Ind. ?Banks and investment houses gamble with our pensions, but what are they going to do to help those in need? We can make Wall Street become involved in the building of America.?

"I have seen patients coming into the hospital sicker. They have lost their jobs, can't afford their medication, and put off getting medical care because they don't have insurance. We're giving a message to Washington," said Karyn Hayduk in Orlando.

?Main Street is broken and Wall Street needs to pay to fix it,? said Mia Pinto-Ochoa in Sacramento, noting that three patients she cared for who had just been laid off were hurrying to have surgeries while they still had health-care benefits this week.

?We want the public to contact these guys and tell them they want it because we?re their constituents,? said Irma Westmoreland, in Augusta, Ga.

?We?re their constituents from Augusta. They need to know what the Main Street Augusta people want, not just the big businesses.?
