It's time to post the beer drinking parable again.

The bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by a higher percentage the poorer he was, to follow the principle of the tax system they had been using, and he proceeded to work out the amounts he suggested that each should now pay.
And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% saving).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% saving).
The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% saving).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% saving).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% saving).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% saving).
Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But, once outside the bar, the men began to compare their savings.
“I only got a dollar out of the $20 saving,” declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,”but he got $10!”
“Yeah, that’s right,” exclaimed the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more benefit than me!”
“That’s true!” shouted the seventh man. “Why should he get $10 back, when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!”
“Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison, “we didn’t get anything at all. This new tax system exploits the poor!”
The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks so the nine sat down and had their beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!
And that, boys and girls, journalists and government ministers, is how our tax system works. The people who already pay the highest taxes will naturally get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas, where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.
Well, as is usually the case with the right wing republican "Belief Bubble" and true reality, this is a more accurate portrayal of the all American beer parable...........

If the wealthy actually did pay what they should, this country would be so much better off
Look at Mitt Romney, who actually paid less in taxes than his poor secretary. What year was that where they pointed out that General Electric as a corporation paid absolutely nothing in taxes whereas the average working stiff such as myself.......... (believe it or not, yes, I actually work for a living) pays a higher percentage of my income than does a millionaire.
Despite all this, the wealthy guy still drinks his beer overseas and typically for nothing or close to it!!!!
The wealthy are spoiled and always get what they want you see.
By the way......did you know that under Eisenhower a republican, that the tax rate for the absolute wealthiest Americans was pegged at 91%!!!! It was actually Reagan who started the trend of the wealthy paying just about nothing.
Anyways, when you first and foremost have a network of companies that skim a nice hefty profit from any system of health and then them same companies get to decide what they'll cover, and not cover, then you have an inflationary means that cannot be controlled. Bernie Sanders wants to get those Billionaires and other wealthy folks to FINALLY pay their fair share, and he also wants to bring in single payer, which eliminates the money sucking insurance companies out of the healthcare system which results in people getting the healthcare they need, without sinking families and individuals into bankruptsy.

Sure. Because we keep seeing incidents of these sort of thinking in every socialist nation on the planet. Just think Eddie, the way it is when insurance companies call the shots. Remember when insurance companies could screw people by claiming "Pre Existing condition" and force people into bankruptsy where families lost everything they owned? I remember those days! Good ole' capitalism at its finest!
I get the impression that you have enough money to cushion yourself from reality ,my friend! Most of us working folks do not have that luxury.
I am on fixed income but I planned ahead when I was working as opposed to many I know.
Well, in reality, most working folks I know in my area, don't make enough to put anything away. In fact, a gal I've known for 35 years now, who has 27 years in at a local lumber mill made the comment that she used to make good money, but with inflation, she's struggling just to live each month and recently had to take a second job. The only time I ever made enough money to actually feed an IRA was when I was tapping in to the federal T.A.R.P money. I was making $39.62 an hour, but only because of the federal government mind you. Around here, (my home town) $15 is good money......
Luckily, I do better than that and me and my better half own 3 homes outright. One of them on 20 acres with 650 feet of waterfront. We gather rent from the other two places and have a substantial money stashed in the bank, in two separate accounts and I gotta tell you that we struggle not to tap the bank account in addition to our income. I cannot imagine the family living on $10 an hour which in todays world is fairly common.
I gather that you're retired. None of my business really but I can tell you that a little over 30 years ago, me and a lifelong friend rented a 2 bedroom home with a detached garage near a beautiful lake, freshly remodeled etc etc for $215 a month. Electric bill in the summer..... under $30 a month. Gas was under 90 cents a gallon and I made $12 an hour cash under the table. Today, after taxes, I don't make much more than that. 25 years ago, we bought our home. $85,000. Today, it's worth 270,000. Food insurance all spiking far more than our wages are going up. Republicans don't get it and don't care either. They're too absorbed into their cush jobs with superb incomes and gold parachute retirements, then there's the red neck idiot republicans, plenty of them in my state, that are too stupid to get it as they hone in on one issue such as guns, and that's just what Madison avenue wants. People NOT thinking or caring. Here's the reality Eddie..... Money don't go as far as it used to and it ain't gonna get any better.
True enough, but socialism is not the answer. Too many freeloaders looking to uncle for support. Bernie would tax the rich but they will find ways to avoid the taxes. Trump would place tariffs on Chinese imports which will drive our I phone and flat screen prices up. No easy answers on the horizon. I like some of Pat Calddel's rhetoric. he blames both parties for the mess.
