We have only 2 options because Democrats and Republicans are in charge of writing our election laws. Here in Florida you cannot even cast a write-in vote if the person you want to vote for hasn't registered with the government as a write-in candidate. You have to collect something like 100,000 signatures and then pay election officials (so far always either a Democrat or a Republican) 10 cents each to verify the signatures in order to get on a statewide ballot as a no-party or 3rd party candidate. Most ordinary citizens cannot afford it.
