Watkins Glen is a cool tourist town. Plenty of places to camp on the state park. If you are interesting in any of the big town activities check out Italian Fest!

I've camped at Lake Taconic many times and I really like it. The fishing is good to if you're into that. You can rent a boat there. And it's an easy drive from NYC up the Taconic Parkway.

Pretty much with any of the NY State parks you can't go wrong. But if you are going to camp in the Catskills be prepared to bear proof the campsite at all times. That means keeping all food and cooking items locked in the car at all times.

Lucky enough to have 18 acres in the Adirondacks where my family camps. I have a pop-up trailer which is now buried under 2 feet of snow. Wasn't able to get up there and get it out before the snows came this year.

This is a good thread, I was unaware of all these spots so close to home.
