LAKE HAVASU CITY - A California man has died when the dune buggy he was driving fell off a 25-foot cliff in western Arizona and landed upside down.
The Mohave County Sheriff's Office says 52-year-old Michael Paul Wartman of Norco died Friday afternoon in the desert east of Lake Havasu City.
A man and a woman riding in the buggy were injured. The woman was treated and released but the 52-year-old man remained hospitalized Tuesday at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
A hospital spokesman says Kenneth Paul Hopkins of Riverside was in critical condition.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Trish Carter says Wartman was apparently driving in circles, or "doing doughnuts," when he lost control and the buggy slid off the cliff. It is possible that alcohol use played a role.
