We basically were the "go to" teams, and covered three different states, so we were pretty busy!

Problem solving, safety, liaison with National Guard and local PD's, protecting our people, removing unscreened volunteers who wigged out and sent them home, etc.

My Dad was part of the First response team in Jarrel after the Tornado.

1997 Central Texas tornado outbreak - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

He tells a story where in after days of combing through wreckage and removing bodies they order something like a few hundred pizzas. The delivery driver made some comment to the like of "I don't know how you people can eat."

My Dad lost it on him. I had been going on calls, but was fortunately was not asked to go to that one.

My Grandparents had been friends with the Igo's, one of the families that had died. My Dad's home paid for their caskets and interment.

My a few of my "Uncles" served as pall bearers.
