No Austin ? these are remains of the mediaeval fortress ?Pernik? ? the town still have the same name.

This fortress played important role in the last days of the first Bulgarian Kingdom. Between 950 and 1014 year there were permanent wars between BG kingdom and Byzantium ? success was changeable to the 1012, when Bz imperator broke up a big BG army and took more than 14 000 our soldiers.

After several days a big Bz army was broken up by other our army killing its general. The evil tongues told that this general was Bz Imperator lover. So, Bz Imperator got hopping mad, deprived of sight of the captured soldiers and set them free ?

After several days they came to our king, seeing this view, he got a heart attack and died. ? it was the end of the first BG kingdom.

All that time Pernik castle was under siege, but BZ army was not able to take it. A place near the fortress is still called ?The bloody place? because of the killed BZ soldiers.

2 years after the dead of our king, the major of the castle gave it to Bz Imperator. The resistance was thoughtless ?

yes Alex … in my mind there are always oddity associations … often it has played me not nice jokes, especially when I have to deal with “serious” people … I remember 3-4 years ago, when the Pop passed away, and they had to choose a new one … Monday after it we had a Department Council. I entered in the conference room and hearing my colleagues speaking about it, I said that if I have a choice, I would be glad to work as a Pop … they asked me why, and I told them, that it would be great, because when I do not feel fine, when I have a time of troubles and darkness, I only need to rise my sight and to see my Chief crucified on the wall … I expected they will die laughing, the only result was the green face of the Department Boss …

Well ... this morning I have decided that my weekend has begun ... tonight I will meet one old my friend ... we will spend a time of jokes, drinks and lough ...

And the summer is really coming .... for me it comes at 20th February and ends at 20th November

Our summer is a little shorter. Our favorite swimming hole from the picture above looked like this last year, at the end of March.



The water is quite cold until mid-June. It's located a little below and left of center of the center in this picture



These shots where taken on the big lake in the middle of the aerial shot. You can see an inukshuk on the smaller island.



The swimming hole is down by the hill in the middle



These guys used to camp on the lake all summer long



Needless to say beer was involved



But the swimming hole is still the best place!

I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive Lab tests, he said I was doing 'fairly well' for my age.

A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, 'Do you think I'll live to be 80?'

He asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer or wine?'

'Oh no,' I replied... 'I'm not doing drugs, either!'

Then he asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?'

'I said, 'Not much... My former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!'

'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?'

'No, I don't,' I said.

He asked, 'Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?'

'No,' I said.

He looked at me and said,... 'Then, why do you even care?'
