So true story about the house you posted the picture to. One time I was with a few friends, and we were jumping off of the rock (the rock in the bottom center of the pic). Well we were having such a merry time that we failed to notice the tide had risen and we were essentially trapped up against the bluffs. So we climed the bluff and were escorted through the house by a security guard out to the street. Security was really nice about it.

Whats worse is the people who own them...

I was working as a restaurant manager of a 5 star resort in Newport Beach.
On Mothers Day, a man decided to yell at the hostess because he couldn't get a table at 10am without having a reservation. I kindly pointed out to the man that the restaurant was booked out 3 months in advance and we could not legally supply a new table just to accommodate his party. He threw a pen at me and shouted "Im worth 5 Billion dollars! And your telling me I cant eat here?" I replied "Your worth Jack Sh!t to me now get the F#@k out of my Restaurant!"

That was the last straw... I quit 5 min later.

The people are just ridiculous.

You shoulda sued him. You coulda been like, "Now youre worth 4.5 billion"

And I was going to post that beach front house too, its pretty awesome.

Theres a house on the water in Newport Harbor thats built on exposed rock. There "living room", Im guessing, has about a 4' tall section of rock coming through floor. Its pretty damn cool

My personal take is that this is a gross misrepresentation of people who live in Newport Beach, and neither person in that dialogue behaved any better than the other. I moved here from a nice, rural place in the Pacific Northwest 15 years ago. I know what nice people are like. I have had no such encounters like the one you described, but if I did, I sure wouldn't lump a hundred thousand people into that category.

Maybe this guy was just a jerk. They exist. Maybe he had a bad day. Maybe you were having a bad day and it showed in your body language or tone. The point being, going from specific encounters to "the people" is quite a generalization.

On an odd trivia note, there is only one person in Orange County worth that much money, and it's Donald Bren at $12 billion. The next wealthiest has a humble sum at $3 billion, according to The OC Register.

The people listed are only those which claim their primary residence in Orance County, and not those with vacation homes from other countries. I know that there are a few shieks who have summer cottages in the OC, but don't advertise their wealth or primary residences.

I'm sure there are some idiots who want to flaunt their wealth, but those claims are probably fabricated. Being raised in Laguna Beach and Newport, most of the people I know with money are some of the funnest, down to earth people I've known.

The Housewives of Orange County really didn't help with the reality of life.

So I should quit looking?

It seems that orange county is fairly split into three categories:
1. People that lived here before it was cool to be from "the oc" and are nice and down to earth
2. People who live out the housewives of the oc show and really should just leave
3. The miserables who are more interested in insuring you are also miserable.

Some days this is the greatest place in the world, others I just have to laugh.....

You hit it right on the nose buddy. I remember when no one had even heard of "The OC". People would ask me where I was from, and when I said Orange county, they gave me a puzzled look and said they had no idea where that was. Man...those were the days.....
