I thought about getting a GMRS lic but it cost to much. We use the FRS only channels with the Grandsons so no lic needed. Ham lic is free but you have to pay around $14.00 to take the test. With a Ham lic you can actually talk around the world with a HT (hand held) using an IRLP node. I know a lot of Hams that have their GMRS lic, they use it a lot with the CERT teams here. My wife and I are both Hams so we wouldn't use GMRS much but it's not a bad idea to have the license.

Jeep = Yes
C/B = Yes
Ham = No (but really want one)

Getting old & senile here, seems the more I read about getting into 2m, the dumber I get. It's a very confusing topic when you study alone.

Eventually I'll join you guys, meanwhile I'll be lurking in the background.

Hey Bob, there should be a club in your area that has a breakfast or lunch get together once a week or so that would be glad to have you join them. Go to QRZ.COM Callsign Database and you can get a lot of info and take practice test. I waited until after I was fifty to get mine, I'm 65 now. Nate
