Wow, big change for you. I'm guessing you're near Bend so you will be drier than the West side of the Cascades.

I briefly stopped in Bend on my way here and was impressed by the friendliness.

You will experience actual Winter on your side while we enter the monsoon season but the damp keeps us warm. It was 63 degrees Sunday and yesterday was almost as warm. Today began chilly but I finished winterizing yesterday so I'm ready.

If you haven't done it yet take a ride over the mountains to Eugene to see how dramatic the differences are.

Today's news has a story about a deer discovered inside a FLA python so you got out in the nick of time.

You have stirred me to the right direction to find a place CRAIGS LIST.
Its georgeous here , sunny 99 % since I have been here from sept 1. we only had a few misty days ,the rest is sun sun, no humidity. We have a micro weather I am told. Half an hour drive from Bend , and the ears do pop halfway here. Yes the nights are cold but when the sun comes out and starts to warm up its glorious to be out side.
we will have powder snow . So I never seen that. When I lived up north for a while it was cold wet heavy snow.
I do not have my car here so I dont get around to see that area , though
I am sure its pretty in a different way. perhaps one day I will.
My mode of transportation here (dont laugh) is a bike , it takes me everywhere , we have excellent 30 miles of bike paths. Right now , we locals have the place for ourselfs, I have not encountered anyone in my 4 hr ride today. Just georgeous fresh cool crisp air.

That microclime you mentioned is only one of several in the state. For an example yesterday fog came through the gorge from East of the Cascades all day.

Nothing unusual there but much of the fog spent the day over McMinnville which kept that town 15 degrees chillier than nearby Portland.
If you do come over the mountains you will find camping areas at 5 or more elevations as you descend the West face. That's 5 choices of weather depending on what you prefer.

A popular winter event is watching winter storms from beach hotels in Florence, Newport and Lincoln City. Summer is wind surfing at Hood River and snow surfing continues late on Mt. Hood.

Tom McCall gave the Oregon beaches to us rather than the motels so bring your bike. Kite flying is BIG around Newport. Kayaks are BIG everywhere there is water.

Elk are not like deer. Hit one and die looks fairly probable. Young cougar are apt to mistake movement for food but most near cities are more interested in pets for dinner.
