I know I'm going to get sprayed for this but ,, these are my pets ,, even if 90 percent think they are a pest.. My pets are honeybees ,, for me they are pets ,, I can go open the hives ,work them ( went in winter with 1 hive ,, will add 2 , maybe 3 in the spring ,, that will bring me up to 120.000 maybe 160.000 pets ) , and be as relaxed when I walk away as any one that has a cat or dog , for me more relaxed .. AAAANNNNYYYYY way . I was wondering if there was any one else that has my kind of pets ????
now thats a man with pets about 700000 to 900000 ,,, I would like to open them all and have a look see ...
you know thats the one thing I had not thought about ..taking pics I mean ..
now this winter theres been 4 -- 5 times that I wanted pics of the girls ( bees ,, beekeeps call the bees girls ) looks like this summer they better look there best ,, cause there will bee a lot of pic taking .. got my first hives in 2006 ,, I had wanted bees from the age 5 ( 1954 ) , but money ,or were we were living said no ,, then got in the rat race of the world .. the Dec of 2005 the kids said dad , your getting bees , and that April my first 15,000 pets arrived ( 3 pounds )
I would love to have a few hives for fun and honey, but right now I'm still living in a major metropolitan area and it probably wouldn't go over too well with the neighbors. They wouldn't understand.
Maybe one day, when I retire to a more tranquil place
I would love to see some pictures and get a little advice about how to start up a bee colony. I find the whole concept fascinating. Beekeeping looks relaxing and rewarding to me, and let's face it, without bees we'd be in big trouble.
Haha. Apricot jam is pretty good too, but real honey fresh from the apiary is the best
I buy the kind with a chunk of the honey comb in the jar.
The biggest bonus is that it's really healthy stuff!
Reminds me on the road going to my vacation home, is a "self serve" honey stand. I've never stopped but wonder if I have to fight the bees to get to the honey?
We have those and self serve vegetable stands up here as well. Farmers and beekeepers put their wares in a stand by the side of the road at the end of their drives. There's a price list and a jar or something for people to put the money in. Basically works on the honor system.
I'm guessing there's still lots of honorable and honest people around else all those self serve stands wouldn't be there.
