Does anyone have an idea what this one is......
it was walking around on my "picnic table" cover when I observed it.....
never saw one before........


PS: Found out below that this is a WHEEL BUG.....

something to put in a jar and take to the jr hi or hi school science lab?

I would not touch it, just in case. And I am sure there'll be lots who will say it is just as scared of you as you are of it - I would not believe that, and treat with respect... YOU NEVER KNOW.... I don't see a stinger but be careful n wear gloves when doing this. The school would have a wonderful time with it.

looks like a Wheel Bug.. .

You should let this bug be, it can bite but more importantly is that it is a beneficial insect that preys on Japanese Beatles and caterpillars.

Thanks for this identity...my item #11 above.....you're right......first one I've ever seen and
I'm definitely glad to hear it's favorite food is the Japanese Beatles...
they take over our flowers every summer...........
