Jim's. Service is only tolerable but sandwiches are excellent.
Marshman is right, though. I more often get a sandwich from the guy running the deli downstairs because I know him, he makes great stuff and he's so conveniently located. As for Pat's the sandwiches are good but I have only had very rude and obnoxious service there. I've heard worse about Geno's and so have never gone there.

Jim's on South street.

There is a local place in Wynnewood though, called Eagle Pizza that has a pretty decent cheesesteak too and it's a LOT closer to my house!

My vote goes to Dalesandro's on Henry ave (u can get a decent beer there also)but like a prev post most of them are good in there own respect i am from the northeast and Steves is pretty good another steak place that hasn't been mentioned from the Northeast is Chinks on Torresdale ave has been around forever I also prefer Genos (possibly because i like there hot suace) if i am going thru South Philly i will try to stop there also

If you want an untraditional cheesesteak like sandwich - go to Paesanos.

Can't say I'm familiar, what would you say is untraditional about it?

I'm a big fan of Jim's. I try to avoid cheesesteak vegas if I can. Would love to find a good cheesesteak/pizza place up near me in Fishtown. Any recommendations?
