Just seeing what was left after the Yellowstone fires broke my heart.

My dad taught me how to make a safe fire in the woods and to stay away from volcanos because they are unpredictable.

He just turned 79 and is still going with the flow, but he refuses to wear his hearing aid which can become tiresome at times

There were fires weekly as a kid. Usually just brush fires but they were taken very seriously in a mostly wooded lightly populated area. Now that area is a Twin Cities suburb.

Pop never mentioned volcanoes so I took a chance. About 20 miles from me is a ridge with a Abbey on it where everyone went to watch Mt. St. Helens go off.

Our site was in the middle of a brush fire once, and some nice trees have taken root there since

Mind you that fire was years before I took this picture back in the late 1970's.

X marks the spot today.

nice looking country.

Fires are good things for the most part. The old growth trees weathered several to reach full height but today our forests are generally just big thickets of fuel.

Is there an area of Canada that's obvious precambrian shield or does it stretch to both coasts? Southern Ontario looks like hell for farmers.
