The Lachine Canal

Here's a picture I took a while back. I always liked the look of the columns the way they curved and the reflections on the water.

The building behind the trees is the historic Fur Trade.

The Lachine Canal is one of the sweetest areas in Montreal as far as I'm concerned.
The potential for incredible pictures along the bike paths is tremendous!

Totally agree. I live in Lachine and head to the bike path as often as I can. There's a good amount of restaurants on the lake shore overlooking the marina.

This is the old canal which is for canoes and just looking pretty. It meets with the main Lachine canal at the locks which goes East all the way to the old port of Montreal. To the west, it goes to the Saint Lawrence River.
The canal bypasses the Lachine rapids which are not boat friendly at all

The Lachine Rapids are not a good place for pedal boats, that's for sure. They are not extreme rapids, but there is an immense volume of water pouring through there every second.

The Lachine Canal on the other hand is a great place for pedal boats. This is the best video I could find about the canal. It deserves more views.
